Humble Beginnings
Our founder, Kent E. Bowman, CFP® CIMA®, was a long-time advisor for a couple of major Wall Street firms but he had always dreamed of his own firm.
After the Y2K scare and the ‘Dot Com’ bubble burst, he thought the timing was right to strike out on his own. The ARROW Financial Group was started as labor of love in June of 2001, and the original name was “ARROW Financial Solutions, PLC.” (AFS)
AFS was started as a financial planning firm, and affiliated itself with the New York-based broker/dealer, Royal Alliance Associates, Inc. The idea was to introduce clients to a detail-oriented financial/retirement planning process, and then to help clients in implementation of the plan.
Branching Out
As we all know, in September 2001, one of the greatest attacks occurred in US history. We were all scared—and the investment business started to stall.
As a result of that brutal attack, AFS had to make its first pivot in strategy and ARROW Risk Management, LLC (ARM) was born to help our clients with their insurance needs.
ARM focused on “individual & family” insurance needs—specifically in the areas that we coined as the “Big Four.”
- Life—Permanent—Whole Life, Universal Life and Variable Life and Term Life
- Health—Individual & Family
- Group coverage cases grew out of our personal relationships
- Disability—focusing on “Own Occupation” coverage
- Long-term Care—I subject that became near and dear to Kent’s heart for personal reasons
Continued Growth
As our business grew, Kent and his team of outstanding advisors embraced the concept that has only recently become law---“Putting Your Best Interest First & Offering Bias-Free Advice” and doing so by focusing on a fair level-fee basis. (Google ‘Fiduciary Rule’ from June 2017)
So, in 2006, the 3rd leg of the ARROW Financial Group was created---ARROW Investment Management, LLC (AIM)—a Michigan registered investment advisor (aka an RIA.)
AIM is focused on fee-based relationships primarily addressing the formal planning process and asset management. A platform of very low fee, risk-based portfolios was constructed on an actively managed basis. These portfolios have just gone through 10 years of operation.
Fast forward to 2014, we all thought it would be easier to refer to our collective companies as the ARROW Financial Group, which is comprised of all of the above companies.Join Our Newsletter
